Free and affordable workplace guidance for employees

The UK Employee Advice Centre is being established as a community interest company to provide free and affordable employment guidance. We help employees understand their rights, review workplace documents, and navigate redundancy, disciplinary proceedings, and workplace disputes.

Our adviser panel is being appointed. Until registration, insurance and adviser certification are complete, settlement-agreement certificate sign-off will be routed only to an appropriately insured external adviser or solicitor.

What we help with

We advise on all areas of individual employment law. Whether you have been made redundant, offered a settlement agreement, disciplined at work, or dismissed, our advisers can explain your rights and your options.

Settlement agreements

Preliminary review of your settlement agreement and the issues to raise before signature. Statutory certificate sign-off only starts once adviser certification and insurance are formally in place, or through a suitable insured external adviser.

Redundancy

Guidance on whether your redundancy process was lawful, your entitlement to statutory and enhanced redundancy pay, and your options if you believe the selection was unfair.

Unfair dismissal

Advice on whether you may have a claim, the time limits for bringing a tribunal claim, and what remedies are available to you.

Workplace disputes

Help with grievances, disciplinary hearings, discrimination, whistleblowing, and other workplace issues. We can advise on the strength of your position and your next steps.

Free advice for everyone

We believe every employee should be able to understand their rights, regardless of what they can afford. Our free advice service gives an initial written response to your workplace question within five working days where capacity allows.

Submit your question

Describe your situation in your own words. We will review it and send you an initial response covering the key issues, possible next steps, and whether more detailed support may be needed. There is no charge and no obligation.

1 Use the contact form below or email your question to [email protected]
2 Include as much detail as you can: what happened, when, and what your employer has said or done
3 A trained adviser or supervised reviewer considers your question and sends an initial response within five working days where capacity allows

Paid advisory services

For employees who need a full review of their documents or a detailed written opinion, we offer affordable fixed-fee services. All fees are significantly below high-street solicitor rates.

Settlement agreement review

Review of the agreement, explanation of key terms, and practical points to raise. Statutory certificate sign-off is available only once insurance and adviser certification are formally bound, or through a suitable insured external adviser.

Adviser panel & standards

Advice is delivered by trained employment specialists and supervised contributors. The Centre operates a strict supervision and quality-assurance framework to ensure consistent, reliable guidance.

Supervised quality control

All case assessments, document triage, and guidance notes are reviewed under the Centre's supervision framework before delivery to employees.

Statutory certification standards

Advisers issuing statutory certificates under s.203(3A)(c) of the Employment Rights Act 1996 will be formally designated and covered by qualifying insurance.

Appointment in progress

Our initial adviser panel is currently in appointment. Named adviser accreditations and biographies will be published once formal onboarding concludes.

Supervised legal volunteers

Law graduates and SQE candidates contribute research and preliminary triage under direct senior supervision, expanding free community access.

Professional indemnity insurance and formal adviser certification are being arranged via AdviceUK. Settlement-agreement certificates will not be signed directly by the Centre until the required insurance and written certification are in place.

Monthly drop-in sessions

We are preparing free face-to-face advice sessions in public libraries across London. Dates and rooms will be confirmed before public attendance is opened.

Free monthly advice sessions

Once sessions are confirmed, attendees will be able to speak to an adviser, review key documents, and receive practical next-step guidance.

Next session: [Date and location to be confirmed]
Sessions are held on the first Saturday of each month, 10am to 1pm, at rotating library locations across London. Follow us for updates or email to register interest.

We aim to respond to all enquiries within five working days. If your matter is urgent, please say so in your message and we will prioritise it.

For settlement agreement reviews where you have a deadline, we typically turn around advice within 48 hours of receiving the documents.

Urgent Time Limit Warning: Employment Tribunal claims carry strict statutory deadlines (normally 3 months less 1 day from the incident or dismissal). Submitting an enquiry here does not pause your legal time limits. If your limitation date is approaching, contact Acas immediately on 0300 123 1100.

How we work

The UK Employee Advice Centre is being established as a Community Interest Company limited by guarantee in England and Wales. Until registration is complete, the site describes the intended public-benefit model and pilot service rather than a fully registered CIC.

Competence and quality

Every adviser will be assessed before being certified. We maintain a written competence framework covering employment knowledge, clear explanation, confidentiality, and professional boundaries. Settlement-agreement certificate work is restricted until the statutory competence and insurance requirements are met.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with advice you received, please email [email protected]. We will acknowledge your complaint within three working days and provide a full response within 15 working days. Our complaints procedure is available on request.

Insurance

Professional indemnity insurance is being arranged. Direct certificate sign-off and other work requiring specific insurance will not begin until cover is confirmed in writing.

Data protection

ICO registration is pending. Information you share with us is kept confidential and used only for advice, triage and administration. We do not share your information with your employer or unrelated third parties without your consent unless legally required.
